Strengthening Community One Story At A Time
“What’s your passion” was the theme March 9th at The Cooper Center LGBTQIA+ Social.
Ever notice how people’s faces light up when they talk about what they actually love? Whether it’s restoring vintage furniture, obscure film history, training for a marathon, or perfecting the art of sourdough, we want to hear about it!
On March 9, folks attending the Cooper Center social gathering experienced a wonderful opportunity to deepen connections with one another! We learned about a particular song that became a lifeline and dream in late teen years during closeted years. We learned how the cross became a symbol of hope in a religious climate that labels the queer community “intrinsically disordered”. We enjoyed seeing handy quilt work and spoke of the AIDS epidemic and the profound sadness when bearing witness to the countless names and testaments of love written on the memorial AIDS QUILT. We heard about the many different beads of the world and how an art gallery opening in Santa Fe ignited creative juices and planted the seed for opening a popular local bead store. We celebrated how one person who thought had no passion claimed the love for finance and teaching finance to others is a deep passion!
