PRIDE Month Display Case at Newton Free Library, June 1-30

Next time you’re in the main lobby of Newton Free Library, check out the display case for Pride Month. The installation was curated by LGBTQ+ Newton member and lead creative designer Cyrus Dahmubed to celebrate the queer community and its allies in the city of Newton and highlight significant milestones in Massachusetts as well as nationally. A BIG shout out to everyone who contributed personal photos, pins, books, zines and other memorabilia to share their special moments of LGBTQ+ pride and history.

Every item contributed by the greater Newton LGBTQ+ community tells a personal story … from a wedding invitation, Boston Globe headline, Pride parade pins, women’s music, 1928 first edition of The Well of Loneliness, photo of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, original art by a HS youth, tribute to Barney Frank & Holly Ryan, P-town t-shirt, and so much more! There is so much history of resilience and perseverance, pain and joy, courage and strength across decades represented in this case.

Hope you get a chance to visit! The installation will be up all of June, it’s in the main lobby of the library. Thank you to Lily Weitzman, Manager of Programs and Communications for the opportunity.
