Cyrus Dahmubed Begins First Term as Newton’s At-large Councilor Ward 4

Congratulations to Cyrus Dahmubed, Newton’s At-large Councilor Ward 4, pictured (left) on January 1, 2026 Inauguration Day signing in the Book of Records for his first term.

Cyrus was spotlighted in Boston Spirit Magazine as being among the openly LGBTQ winners of the November 4, 2025 election, link to article below.

In response to the endorsement of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund during his campaign, Cyrus writes on his “Cyrus for Newton” FB page:

PROTECTING THOSE MOST AT RISK

“I couldn’t be prouder to have the endorsement of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund! At this moment when the safety and wellbeing of queer people, and trans people in particular, is being put at renewed and increased risk by dangerous rhetoric in our national conversation, I am proud of the work I have done for, about, and as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Much of this work has centered on creating safe spaces for queer people to be together in community, and learning how safe queer spaces can offer a framework for more inclusive design broadly that serves everyone by being more welcoming, caring, and loving.”

We are excited to have Cyrus on team LGBTQ+ Newton!
